Padiham - Gawthorpe Hall - National Trust & Lancashire County Council

An Elizabethan house with rich interiors and an important textile collection - indeed, a gem in the heart of industrial Lancashire. The unique collection of textiles and costume from all over the world mingles with paintings on loan from the National Portrait Gallery to produce an amazing atmosphere. There are extensive grounds and woodland walks, and the whole property has very close links to the 17th-century trial and ordeals of the Pendle Witches. There's also the Great Barn, an unusual threshing barn with an amazing cathedral-like feel to it. Gawthorpe Hall has a tea-room and a National Trust shop. Opening times vary, so please check before visiting.
