Fence near Burnley - the Fence Gate InnThe Fence Gate
Inn is a beautifully restored 17th Century building, extensively modernised
and now offering the highest standards of food and drink. There are two
banqueting suites and a modern 100-plus brasserie as well as the lovely public
bar. The Fence Gate has established an enviable reputation
for excellent food, really great wines and good local ales. The mix of
clients is impressive, but all are discerning customers who know what they
want - a cosy pub with a log fire serving great food, with excellent wines by the glass
or bottle and really good beer: three regular and two guest real ales at
any time, all with the Cask Marque accreditation. The notion of pub food
is outmoded here: the menu has local, national and international
influences, and everything that can be, is made with the freshest local
ingredients. There is a unique touch, too: a bar menu which combines brasserie dishes with
a delicious choice of sandwiches, sausages from the pub's own sausage factory,
together with superb pies and gourmet burgers. Incidentally, the Fence
Gate Inn was the original source of the chunky chip. The pub claims that
they source fresh produce and nurture it into cooked food with the finest
of local, national and international
influences, presenting it excite your senses! Fence - The Forest InnAssociated with the excellence of the Fence
Gate Inn, the Forest Inn can hardly fail to please: the menu offers fresh specials on a daily
basis, depending on the finest local produce available. There are examples of
the Inn's menus on line; one thing that never changes is that the food is
made with the freshest and best ingredients so that the customer gets the best
possible dining experience. There are many vegetarian options, and the Inn
is proud that it can accommodate most tastes and preferences. Rossendale - Holden Vale HotelThe Sleigh restaurant provides
modern style dining which has won many awards, and gained it an
excellent reputation for superbly inspired and imaginative menus. As with
all these establishment, the Holden Vale uses only fresh
local produce, has a comprehensive wine list, and offers friendly,
efficient service. Rawtentsall - The Dining RoomHandpicked staff, modern British cooking, superior quality,
informal surroundings and a laid-back atmosphere all add up to a comfortable and relaxing experience.
But of course the main event is the food. No problems there! Chef-proprietor Andrew Robinshaw
ran a team of French chefs in a
French Michelin starred restaurant and worked for Gordon Ramsay before
coming back to Lancashire to develop a superb dining experience with classically-inspired dishes
with a modern twist, using local ingredients on a changing menu that
reflects the seasons. As a result, the Dining Room has
been shortlisted for many awards. The contemporary-styled
bar with wooden floor and leather couches is a welcoming space to choose
from the menu and wine list, and the modern setting of the dining room is
a perfect place to savour the astonishingly good food. Padiham - The Corner HouseThe Corner House
is located at the junction of Moor Lane, Burnley Road and Church Street in Padiham,
not far from Burnley. The Corner House is open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch,
afternoon tea and - by the time you read this - perhaps dinner as well.
Think English food with a modern twist, home cooked and locally sourced.
This is not just the average café: see the amazing range of
breakfast choices, for example. The interior is decorated with art by one
of the owners, all of which is available to buy. Padiham - Mamma Mia At Crossways
The large sandstone
building on the corner of Whalley Road is the site of Mamma Mia's,
where you will get top quality Italian cuisine and a wonderful pizzeria.
In summer you might
dine al fresco on the terrace. This is a wonderful, authentic
Italian experience, with good food and friendly service. The Simonstone Hotel has had a major refurbishment and
is now restored to its original glory. There's a great new restaurant area and
a new
chef with a fine track record in
Lancashire's top Michelin starred restaurants. The menu is traditional
English and offers not only excellent value but a friendly dining
experience in pleasant surroundings with great food.
Close to Burnley town centre
yet near the tranquillity of Towneley Hall and Park, the Alexander
offers The Gourmet Restaurant, where you can enjoy regional produce with
such fine foods as Morecambe Bay prawns,
Bowland lamb, Lancashire cheese and local ice cream. The Gourmet Restaurant is open
on Monday to Saturday evenings and
from midday to 6pm on Sundays. This is a small coffee shop where you can get home
food such as soups, quiches, light lunches, traditionally baked cakes
and scones.
Pendle - The Chocolate Strawberry TearoomsHome cooked
food, morning coffee and afternoon
tea. Inside and outside dining. Located at Junction 12 off the M65 motorway next to
the huge B & Q store.
Burnley -
Sparrow Hawk Hotel This is a traditional Victorian hotel close to the town centre,
where industrial
heritage and historic houses abound. All guest rooms are en suite.
There's a convivial real
ale bar with entertainment at weekends, while Smithies
café-bar and Farriers Loft Restaurant provide you with a superb choice
of stylish dining. Salterforth, Barnoldswick - Anchor InnA traditional pub with bags of character, a warm welcome,
and an excellent selection of cask ales and traditional home cooked food
such as traditional plate pie with short
crust pastry followed by sponge pudding and custard. A host of home
made dishes are on offer - all traditional Lancashire food. Colne - Black Lane Ends Black Lane Ends was once a farmhouse high up in scenic surroundings on the ancient drovers' road into Colne from West Yorkshire. Nowadays it's a welcoming pub, with a traditional bar featuring six real ales from the Copper Dragon Brewery in Skipton. Home-cooked food is available all day, with specials such as pork and apple burger, slow-raosted lamb rump and halibut with sun-blushed tomato mash. There's a great jazz evening on the second Wednesday of every month. Lancashire, and it's great advantage is that it's very handy for walkers and cyclists in this superbly
scenic area of
countryside. There are usually three or even four beers on sale, and the
